Thamizh Padam (The best of all time)

[ First of all, a big round of applause for the director for introducing a new genre in Tamil film industry. Holly wood had it since long with movies like Hot Shots Naked Gun or Scary Movie series and Tamil television has beaten it to death. But a full length spoof running for more than two hours on big screen is really difficult to make considering the sensitivity of the industry people. Even Bollywood hasn’t tried a full fledged parody yet.

Thamizh Padam has done it nicely without hurting the sentiments or feelings of any body. Though only regular movie goers will identify every spoof still they will enjoy it even if it is of their favourite heroes. Director Amudhan has walked the tight rope very effectively. [ Amudhan’s research is ingenious and the inventive plot construction deserves special mention. He has wedged almost all famous movies of our times into the plot, taking a leaf out of famous movies including Naattamai, Basha, Annamalai, Talapathi, Kanthaswamy, Vettaikaran, Boyz and Run – not to mention the good old ones. And sequences like girl-raping-a-guy and villain shooting himself to death are sure to bring the roof down.

The fantastic rerecording complements the tone of the movie fittingly and Kannan’s composition for the song Omaha Zeeya is a visual treat in itself.

So grab your popcorn and cola, get yourself a ticket and watch Thamizh Padam with your entire family. If not anything, you might get a hint at how stereotyped our movies are. Who knows, this might even bring about a change in the outlook of our creative heads. For better, hopefully!

Shweta Mohan has several reasons to be happy. Her Oh Maha Zeeya... number from Tamizh Padam is topping the charts. In Malayalam, she is a rage and she’s just back from Kerala after receiving the Best Playback Singer award from a media house.

Song Oh Maha Zeeya

It is a song that aroused great curiosity even before the album was released. It was said that this number can neither be remixed in future nor can be sung again by Hariharan himself. Yes of course. Listen to the song and you will endorse it. A hilarious number with funny lyrics from several earlier numbers that topped the charts make up this song. "If your tummy aches from laughing while seeing the O Mahazeeya ... song (from Tamizh Padam) on screen, you have to blame Gayathri Raghuram for it." - by times of india. So, it was a difficult task choreographing it. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every minute of the shooting. You can’t hide the smile on your face when you see Shiva on screen. I just loved the way the song turned out and it will remain one of my favourites.
