On this date in 1978, Chelsea released their third single, "Urban Kids". It was backed by "No Flowers". Both songs appeared on their second album, Alternative Hits. The London punk band was one of the earliest punk bands on the scene but went through some dramatic personnel changes early on that set their recordings back. The original lineup featured Gene October as the lead singer and three bandmates who would leave in a couple of weeks after forming to form another band. Those departing were Billy Idol, Tony James and John Towe. That band would be Generation X. Gene October was left to recruit a new band which he did. That new band included James Stevenson. Predictably, he would later leave to join Generation X too. Chelsea is still performing and Gene October is still there.
